When a woman first comes out of the closet, it is often hard to know where to go to meet other lesbians. We all know that there are gay and lesbian bars, but some people are not into this and want to find other ways. The following are simply some ideas of where you might find other lesbians.
Lesbian Bars:
This is probably the best place to meet other lesbians. Although the bar scene may not be your style, try to go on quieter nights. Fridays and Saturdays are normally the busiest nights, so maybe try to go during the week. You may find that it is more low-key and less of a drunken party scene.
Gay and Lesbian Center:
There may not be gay and lesbian centres in all cities, but if there is one near you this may be the best place to go. They often have many different groups such as support groups, book clubs and movie nights. Find something that interest you and join. You may not find love, but you will at least meet other people.
Sports Teams
If you are into sports, look at joining a team. In some city they have leagues organized by gay and lesbian groups. But any sport could be a good way to meet lesbians. If you are not into playing sports, maybe go catch a few games. You never know who you could meet.
Through Friends
If you have just come out, you may not have told all your friends and co-workers that you are a lesbian. However, friends that do know can be a great way to meet someone. Make sure they know that you are looking to meet other lesbians, and just as friends. Once you meet a couple, you may find that you have a new circle of lesbian friends.
The Internet
We know that the Internet is fast becoming a way to meet a partner. If this does not feel comfortable to you, just be clear in your profile that you are only looking for friendship. You never know, you may meet your soul mate this way. One tip; make sure you meet them in a public place. This may sound obvious, but some people don’t think of this, and you never know who could be hiding behind the computer talking to you. A good place to meet up would be at a coffee shop.
Concerts
If you know of bands playing that may attract lesbians, go to these concerts. Concerts with a strong female lead singer, although she may not be a lesbian, are usually your best bet.
In the end, the best advice is to put yourself out there. If you continuously stay at home, or hang out with the same crowd you will not meet anyone new.
